Each Meltingpot table goes through repeated sessions of sanding and wiping - revealing a smooth, vibrant surface beneath the layers.
Cleaning is advised with a gentle dish detergent and microfibre cloth. Much like wood or stone, the solid plastic will develop a patina of use over time. It is safe to buff away superficial marks with a mildly abrasive dish cleaner such as Cif. Cif is also useful in the removal of stains, such as from turmeric or rust. For deeper scratches, a woodworker or kitchen surfacer can effortlessly buff the table back to its original state. Please ensure that the plastic does not come into contact with acetone or other chemical cleaners. Kooij products are protected by a limited warranty. Is custom coloring possible?
Tables longer than 240 cm in length (9P to a 16P) are produced exclusively made-to-order, for both end users and interior projects. If you are interested in a made-to-order table, please email us at
office@kooij.com
with project details as well as the invoice and shipping address, and we will send you a quotation including shipping (and import) costs. The Meltingpot made-to-order instructions can be found here. All side, coffee and dining tables up to 8 seats are not made to order. Daily, our in-house colourist composes a table from precious, fleeting resources. As such, each piece is a one-off interaction between intuition, material, and chance.
Will the table damage the floor?
Meltingpot tables are equipped with thick felt pads across the entire leg(s).
Is the table solid?
Pressed from studio prototypes and colour tests, the table tops are completely solid - with patterning enveloping the top, edges and underside of the table.
Are the materials used for this table sustainable?
Dirk van der Kooij uses design to break the waste cycle. By creating value and purpose for recycled plastic, he ensures that this problem material is preserved safely- and at scale. The studio is responsible for giving shape to over 40T of waste plastic a year.
